That noise happens with too much audio. If the ALC light is coming on a lot
or if running mic gain to high or (in my experience) if using the speech
processor. Back off and it should clean up. Also, the panel control for mic
gain apparently starts after a mic preamp stage so it may already be too
high for the particular mic you are using. Adjusting the hardware mic gain
accessible from under the front panel may be needed. As memory serves, it
adjusts "backwards" so clockwise is lower.

I am not intimately familiar with the Omni VII so its quirks are not on the
front page of my RAM.
I understand them generally well enough to repair them but I have a question
about the radio in TX.
Is it common for this model to exhibit slight buckshot sound in the speaker
on
voice peaks?
I heard a radio do that long ago and it was considered "normal" for that
model
but one would have thought Ten Tec would have worked t his out by the time
the
Omni VII was designed.
If this is not normal, then I have more work to do...
