When picking your choice of grease, choose a short fiber grease. The forces
involved in the PTOs are very small. Any good grade of short fiber grease will
work, provided that it is not too viscous. Gun grease, sowing machine grease,
and lightweight automotive lubricants should be good. Avoid axel grease, etc.
It is much too thick, and will result in poor feel & a PTO that moves back a
bit after you let go of the knob.

The trick is finding synthetic open gear grease that isn't prohibitively
expensive. Today, I would not consider a PTO rebuild without synthetic grease.
Otherwise, you're back to a rebuild at some point in the future. With
synthetic, you'll never need a rebuild as a result of the grease drying out.

I've found several DuPont Molykote alternatives, the most inexpensive being
about $30 for a small tube. However, I don’t know if it has the required
"tackiness" needed in this application. If anyone has a source for synthetic
open gear grease, please pass it along.

I found this on Ten Tec site.

https://www.tentec.com/faq-ten-tec-pto-lubricant/?fbclid=IwAR24zVzxlqBznaI_FBXCTPOf71OjG5EGT0IuETAtwpGetx6n5hpapNxdsg4

I remember someone from the orginal Ten Tec said they got the green grease from
the co-op, but that was years ago.
