Hi Bob,
Thanks for replying to my question. The front end seems to work ok in the bands
above 30m, with sensitivity similar to my other rigs, and without significant
variation from the low to the hi end of each band.
Initially I had supposed that the problem could be related to low and uneven
local oscillator injection level for the 80/40m bands, but after looking with
the scope at the output of the VFO amp, it seems to be fairly constant and
properly peaked across both bands.

For the same RF injection from the signal generator I get gradually much more
response towards 3.5 Mhz and 7.4Mhz compared to 4 and 7.0 Mhz respectively.
So the problem seems to be unequal preselector tracking within these 2 bands
and not lack of function of a front end stage, which would affect sensitivity
equally irrespective of Rx frequency.

On the other hand, I did find the 9Mhz trap trimmer completely off resonance
(see my 1st post), something that perhaps indicates improper alignment to the
preselector coils by the previous owner. I was just wondering if anyone had
attempted to adjust L1, which is the coil that according to the manual should
not be touched during alignment.

Eventually I may have to try and adjust L1 and see what happens to the above
problem, but without clear instructions I am afraid that I may find myself in
the "no man's land" afterwards.....Maybe recording any change I make to L1 I
could at least reverse any change, if the attempt proves unsuccessful.

73,
Marinos

Hi Marinos!

Suggest you fashion a small RF pribe and used another receiver to see if
it's a problem with the front end.

I don't think TT used Molex connectors. They were Amp Mate n lok
