It is either non-reciprocity or a curse.

This morning XZ1N was audible here until 1628Z (almost an hour after my
sunrise), valiantly holding off the OH stations while calling for KL7 only.
Dan KL7Y was obviously hearing him fine but could not break through the
noise. At 1621Z KH6CC came up on freq - he was only 539 here - and exchanged
reports (XZ1N said he recognized Jack's fist - there's food for thought).
XZ1N peaked 579 at 1545Z but still could not hear anything from this direction.

At the end of the opening XZ was audible only on the higher angle antenna.
Non-reciprocity IS likely on 160, where the operating frequency is
comparable to the electron gyro-frequency, because of the effect of the
rotation of planes of polarization. Davies discusses this on page 256 of
'Ionospheric Propagation' 1990 (thanks NM7M for the reminder of this). But
I must say the signal from XZ seems too consistent for this to be happening.
I don't have to change from horizontal to vertical polarization from one
minute to another, as often happens on VK signals through the summer.

Must be a curse.

A note for those who ask for daily notes on XZ1N from me. Not everyone likes
it, and Warren's info is more useful. 73 de VE7BS
