First Time Operation IOTA - Gulf of Thailand - North East Group - "Chang
Island" "Koh Chang"
1. Everything is going very well with the preparations, and the main party
is already on it's way to the Island. The weather is calm, and dry in the
area. Most members will sail tomorrow morning, Thailand Time, ie 2300z (12
December 1996)
2. Already HS0EHF and HS2AT have landed on the Island, and have confirmed
that suitable electricity supplies are available. Therefore it will not be
necessary to take generators.
3. Unfortunately it was not possible to transport the 18m tower across to
the Island today, and therefore the activity has not started early as was
hoped for. However, arrangements have been made to transport the tower in
the morning with the main party, and it is expected they will start up
during mid-afternoon Thai Time, around 0800z, and should be ready for
registration around 1100Z as planned.
4. In response to requests from North America E21CJN, HS1EUD, and SM3DYU
will concentrate on CW 7MHz between 1300z and 2000z looking for North
American stations, this band is thought to be the best band for the
purpose. The following periods will be checked for North America on- 14 MHZ
CW 1630z - 1830z, 3.5 MHz CW 1100z - 1200z, 2030z-2330z. Any advice on
times and propagation from North American experts will be welcomed. The
above is based on experience from Thailand, and a study of propagation
computer programs.
