I posted a message on March 20 about working Hans 8Q7BE.
Today, I received his card and the following note (my comments in
parentheses):

"Dear Bill--Yes, it was an exciting QSO. I watched you a long time
before. You have had a QSO with UR7QC 559 (this was at 2344 UTC) and
I thought I would send you only an SWL card, hi hi. Then I heard you
calling DK2FG (at 0003 UTC). At this moment you were listening to him
and I thought now or never, hi. Always sending 8Q7BE, I was listening
for any response between my calls. I stopped calling and who is that?
My God it is Bill, he is calling me! I give you 559 and you answer
immediately also with 559. I'm very happy (that definitely made two
of us!) Maybe 2-3 minutes of nothing (I am on the telephone calling
guys) and then is coming the run from USA...it was a big pileup. But
then 9X4WW came on and worked on my pileup frequency. It is a great
pity, but such is life, hi hi. OK Bill, many thinks for this nice QSO.

                                73 de Hans DL8NBE - 8Q7BE"

Notes like this one are part of what makes 160 so special. We
sometimes forget that the DX is just as excited to work us as we are
to work them! And it also proves that it does make sense to make some
noise on the band...you just never know who might be listening!

                                        73, Bill W4ZV
