>Recently the band has been open from the west coast to VK most mornings at
sunrise ( worked 6 VK's on Sunday). A good beacon is the Australian
broadcast sation (Alice Springs?) on 2310. Hoping for something rarer. Hi.
Stan W7AWA
A recent session (June 22) at Grayland, WA hunting for medium wave DX using
a 200 meter Beverage, yielded Australian broadcast stations on 1620, 1629,
1638 and 1665 kHz as well as the higher power broadcasters on the more
populated band below 1600 kHz.
2ME-1638 from Sydney (400w?) was particularly steady for about 40 minutes
after local sunrise...the signal actually peaked during this time. The
effect was noted also on 4QD-1548 Emerald, Qld., but was not nearly as
pronounced on 4QR-612 Brisbane, and was not noted at all on the Katherine,
NT transmitter on 2485 kHz.
VK amateurs were heard earlier on 1825, but not at great strength
best wishes,
Nick VE7DXR
