Hi guys-

Kevin, NL7Z, was on 1829 this AM from 1140Z onwards.

This is not unique!

How his signal seemed to arrive here and how it SOUNDED here was VERY UNIQUE
however.

I was beaming NW on the 4 square (normal path) and when he first answered my
CQ DX he had the most gawd-awful multipath echo I have ever heard on 160M.

It sounded like the worst multipathing I have sometimes observed on 40CW at
sunset when working JA's via the long path at 150 degrees heading.

I switched over to a South/Southeast heading and his signal came up almost 3
s-units, but still with HUGE multipathing echo - which lasted as long as I
could copy him (until about 1107z).

I have never heard such strong multipathing on 160M. It's presence indicates
signal arrival from at least two different headings - which are in effect
"bucking each other".

Could I have been hearing Kevin out of the long path?

Has anyone else experienced this?

I essentially had to beam S/SE in order to acquire a CW signal I could copy -
and he was CLEARLY stronger on that path. (There is a measured F/B on my 4
square of over 20 DB on Rx.)

Has anyone out there observed this before?

I can tell you that multipathing of this level on 160M is extremely RARE.
Moderate polar echo used to be somewhat common on sigs from VS6DO, for
example. But this was FAR in excess of that stuff.

I wonder what Bob Brown/NM7M would think of this one??

I think I was hearing/working him long path - and the path was also there to
the NW at the same time - only weaker, and not the DOMINANT path at 1140z.

At least, it sure sounded like that to me!

Any one out there see this stuff before?

73 Jeff
