I recently received a note from OM2XW detailing his top band equipment,
etc. I thought that others might be interested...
Hello Bill. Thanks a lot for all Top Band QSOs we had. I read in the
Top Band Mail Reflector that you're doing a survey about antennas in EU.
Hams, even living in eastern EU, have rather limited possibilities
for building such a great antenna systems like guys in U.S. But one
can enjoy DXing with simpler antennas as well.
This is a grounded half loop I've been using for last three years (I
still do). [Diagram shows a half loop antenna with 3 supports 15 to
20 meters tall; fed by 75 ohm cable. The center support (20M tall)
uses the top portion of the guys for added top loading.]
Usually during winter I'm allowed to use some random wires for RX.
They just lie on the ground but work very well.
With this antenna setup and an older TS-930S + 3-500Z PA I worked 180
countries (176 cmfd), 38 zones (37 cmfrd; need 27, 31), and 47 U.S.
states (all of them cmfd; need HI, ID, ND). I think it's not that bad
even from this part of central Europe, which seems to be a black hole
for RF (when compared to Scandinavia or U.K.), hi. [Hey, I thought
that THE Black Hole was here--K0HA]
Wish you all the best, good DX on Top Band, and good health.
