W0AH brought up a subject last week regarding connecting various radial
systems together.............

I got to thinking about this and have a question about it--

My 160 meter Inv L has 90 raidals on it- about two miles of wire....if I add
it to my 80 meter 4 square radial system, that will give it another 3 miles
of radials, but how is this good??

I've paid close attention to cutting my radials, making the patterns
symetric, etc........if I join these to other radial systems, whats the
purpose of doing all this detailed work in the first place......why not just
lay down what ever wire I can find in random order and slap it all together?

The 160 meter Inv L sits NE of the 4 square by about 300 feet- There is
actually two radials from each system that pass very close by- and joining
them would take all of 1 minute- Would the additional radials give the Inv L
a big boost towards the SW where the 4 square radials are laid, and would the
NE vertical of the 4 square get a nice big lobe compared to the other
verticals towards the 160 meter Inv L radial system??????

I know, I hear it all the time, the more radials, the better........but
something just does not sound right with that theory when you are talking
about joining two different antenna radial system's together-

I would really appreciate anyone who can answer address this scenerio- I
have potential here to either really improve things or completely mess them
up- 73 paul N0AH Carpenter, Wyoming
