Gentlemen,
may I use this way to thank everybody who responded to my question.
All of the input was appreciated by me!
Up to now I didn´t decide what to do apart from the fact that my
signal on topband need some more dB (400W out now, FL2100Z, 2x572B).
5 dB over 400W would be fine!
I could buy a used L7 for about 1200$ here in DL and had 160m at a flick
of a switch. But as far as I know this linear lacks glass chimneys for
the tubes and has problems with arcing (the cause being the loading
capacitor). And I am not sure whether it is safe to run this linear
with the 2.6 kV on the plate (recommended for SSB). 1,8kV for CW
(limiting the input to 1kW because the regulations of that time the
amplifier was built)seems not proper for a 3-500Z and results in too low
an output.
So the question is can the L7 be used with 2.6 kV in the CW-mode?
Not only once like the TL-922 but regularly without destroying the
bandswitch? No, there was no bandswitching with a brick on the key,
believe me! I like learning by doing if it is not too expensive...
The second option is to buy a used L4B for abt the same amount of money
(still waiting for someone who offers one for 500$, hi) and to modify
this linear for 160m. And of course this linear should also run with
a plate voltage of 2.6 kV and in CW.
So that´s the story here. I can spent my money only once as everyone
else and having a upper limit of 1200$ forbids anything else as a used
linear - my XYL and my dog need some food from time to time!
Thank you again very much for your comments and hints!
I will be an leave from saturday 0800z on (8 days in PA0) so it will
take a week until I can respond to any mail rcvd later than saturday
morning (DL-time).
