Is there a rule of thumb on how much distance aluminum tubing should be
inserted into each other section?
I am putting up an all aluminum 80 meter vertical (66 ft) guyed at 20 feet
and 40 feet and is also guyed at the tip. I was putting 12" into each
section but, doing the math, if I put 6" into each section, I can eliminate
one entire 6ft section. Makes the antenna lighter and easier to handle.
Since the antenna is vertical and guyed with most of the stress straight
down, I feel this should be OK mechanically. The bottom section is 2.125
OD" and tapers to 3/4" OD at the top. Any recommendations, criticisms?
