I may have mentioned this before, but many have
noticed that the leading edge of auroras often brings
enhanced low-band conditions (until attenuation later
causes poor conditions). I subscribe to a free alert
service sponsored by Sky & Telescope Magazine
and prepared by Cary Oler of Solar Terrestrial Dispatch
fame. I've found this gives fairly accurate predictions of
auroras, yet few false alarms. Since September, it has
produced only 4 alert messages.
