Mike,  IMHO the two mast approach is worth the extra effort if you make a
"T" rather than an inverted "L".  You will end up with a higher feed
impedance, greater efficiency (depending on the wire lengths) a lower take
off angle, and  due to the cancellation effects of an equal sided center fed
top wire, there would be less high angle wasted radiation.  This all becomes
more apparent with the effort you plan to install those radials.  The T may
take up a bit more real estate but they are just better. Additionally the
vertical portion is hanging down well away from the support masts so the
interaction issues are less.
