Reference the Capacitor that heats up, it is due to high current in the configuration.

If possible, find three or four smaller value door knob capacitors and put them in parallel to make the same value as the original Butternut capacitor, then the over heating may go away and one may be able to operate without taking a break and may be able to push a KW instead of 600 watts. Heavy duty disc ceramics may also work.. that is what Array Solutions does for some of their phasing units... about 6 or 8 small values in parallel to get the capacity wanted. In this case it might be across a ceramic insulator to replace the door knob.

For example the Collins 180U L-network antenna tunner uses 5 x 100 pfd in parallel instead of one 500 pfd capacitor to pad the air variable in the tuning unit for lower frequencies and low impedances.
