I agree with the trap approach for 80 meters on an inverted-L for 160. We
did that about 10 years ago with an inverted-L up about 85 feet and out
about 75 feet. Putting the trap in just over 1/4 wavelength up (maybe 0.28
wl) with the series capacitor should bring 80 meters in very close to 1:1
SWR, and also work for 160.
Note that the typical 80 meter trap provides inductive loading on 160, maybe
15 feet worth, so one may have to shorten the inverted L or play a bit with
the series capacitor, or use a tuner as a line flattener. In our case we
used a 500 pfd, 5KV vacuum variable capacitor at the feed point, and a tuner
at the station for fine tuning the SWR.
