Re the questionable (or inaccurate) claim recited about using low VF coax  to 
shorten radials in some of W6SAI's books - Orr doesn't actually state that as 
 fact but rather reports it as what other's have done -- he typically adds 
some  jocular verbiage about "trying this for yourself".  I was always a big 
fan 
 of Bill Orr and he did have academic engineering credentials, but his books 
-  especially the last 3, were a lot more casually written in both style and  
content.  I think his point was ham radio wasn't meant to be rocket  science.. 
 That said one has to be especially appreciative of ON4UN's books  which are 
precise to the point of be a bit out of range of many of us to execute  to. 
But as he notes in the Low Band editions - he sets the objective standard  and 
to me that lets me know that much better the impact of the comprimises I  need 
to take - and to learn...
