Hi "Topers"
First of all my big thank to all that had patience while I kept figthing the
noise, but I have to be
honest I keep reading several articles here and others about all kinds of 160m
solutions and I still
think that I have been quite lucky with the longwire on top of the stream (or
some may say random
wire) in fact is about 75 meters (246ft or so) of 4mm nude copre wires directly
conected to the MFJ
949E wire conector, i can tune it vri easily for the hole spectrum (1830-1850).
Figthing the noise is hard some times, but I already had several opurtunities
to work the band with
less than S5 to S7, more than that is realy a head pain, so last weekend was
another great weekend
as the noise was quite tolerant and still no filter, hopefuly will get it soon!
So here is the report for Friday to saturday:
CN2R Jim was incredibly strong on 1844.7 SSB, sometimes 25 to 30 above 9, I
said I am sure I can
work him because I rarely work 160 SSB on this band exept a few locals with
CU2AF or CU2CE they are
on the band SSB often, i had just finished unpacking the station when i turned
the 706 and I didnt
had the key ready so I called Jim and bingo he heard me at first time, I guess
I got more surprised
than he was, and aked him if he worked CW he no prob go ahead but i had to
prepare the Key kind of
ambarassing, so while I was preparing the Key (I Use straight key, had to
connect the wires) I heard
Jim for 15 minuts or so working several stations some i could hear some not,
then I poped in again
and "voila" my first Marocco in 160 Tnx Jim, I heard Jim later agn on 80m he
was 59 +60 I have a
video clip of that hi hi!
So after my CN2R adventure I finaly found a little spot on the long long 160m
spectrum hi and called
for a bit after that here is the report for friday/staurday:
N0FW; VO1AU; VO1TA; W1AO; W2JB; K3WW; NR1R (hard one thanks for ur patience)
NO2R; N1EU; W3BGN;
W0FLS and that finals the first day with CU2AF calling me hi with 599+60 hi,
strangely not one
single european in the log it was late i guess, there goes the hope also to any
KH or KL :-( nada
this time!
I know i heard a few more trying but i realy apologise as they were realy below
the noise and its
realy hard to pull them out!
Saturday/Sunday:
This time europeans were there i worked a few,
K1FZ; EI3GZ; K1CP; SM5DQC; SM0EJR; G3XGC; SM0NJO; PA5A; N3MX; LA7THA; K3JJG;
G3TA; DF2UU; N1JP;
G3OCA; SM2CEW; I1APQ; OH6KN (first time he called my heart jumped hi hi, I got
KH6); SO5AS; VE3OSZ;
AA1K; K3UL; K3WA; GI3PDN; W1LW; W0FLS(Dave was amasingly strong) and finaly
AA9D, after that the
band kind of droped and that was around 23:45 UTC and Local too, till next week
i think!
I went to listen the bands for a while and stoping by 80m dx window I found cpl
of friends and
joined a net for a hour or so, after that i was planning to go to bed I REALY
wanted to try to wake
up the next morning before sunset and the difrence but I went back to 160m just
to see how it was
and BOY!! it was crasy I thougth there was a contest going on the hole band was
busy, it was hard to
leave the band like that, so first station i heard was booming, and I rearely
dare to call I know my
100 watts wond do much against the usual big stations from EU but he was so
strong I gave a try and
at third try I got me, and EA8ZS was in the log, and after that I went up till
i got a clean spot
and strted calling and in no time huge signals were coming in, so here is the
rest of the
saturday/sunday:
UT3UA; WA4TT; W8UVZ; N9MM; W3GH; KV0Q; K9IT; K4SV; N1DG; W2VO; K1BG; W1IBQ
(lost him before, got him
this time); K8FC; KD9SV; N7QQ (Yuuupiii hehe); K9EU and ending last weekend on
160m with OH3LX!
Once again, some high noise sometimes and some heavy QSB made me loose some
stations wich i am sorry
for that hope to get you next time!
Interesting conditions towards Sweeden its very hard to hear them but last
weekend I got several
SM's calling me and some very strong!
Well once gain I say thank you to all that called me because as a low power
station I rarely have a
chance to make myself heard on a pileup hi hi!
See you next time!
Best of DX to all
(oops that was a long one hi)
