My Beverages all go through thick woods. I use bright orange surveyors'
tape and a hand-bearing marine compass to mark the route before
stringing the wire. The tape is placed around trees every 50 feet or
less and it is easy to keep the line is straight. The surveyors' tape is
available from most home-supply stores in the U.S. This stuff even shows
up when there is snow on the ground.

Same here, Jon. When I put my Beverages up for the first time, I used my
Garmin GPS to establish the end points; 720 feet apart, and at the correct
azimuth. I then marked several way-points with flags. This made my work
easier, clearing a 4 foot wide path through the trees, briars, and brush.

The end result was a strait line, and the azimuth was within 2 feet of the
planned direction.
