Hi Mike,
Back about a year ago, or more, there was a "The Doctor Is In" segment of
QST magazine that described a way to utilize standard PL-259 plugs --- plus
RG-59 reducers --- on RG-6 coax cable.
The trick was to find a way to ensure a good electrical connection to the
outer shield --- that nasty aluminum foil stuff, & all....
I believe F connectors are clearly the best choice for RG-6 cable since they
are made specifically for that application. They are easy to install,
inexpensive, mechanically secure, and much more compact than UHF connectors.
There are several varieties of the F connector but generally speaking, there
is an indoor version and an outdoor version (which has somewhat of a seal).
To install an F connector you will need the proper crimping tool (available
at Radio Shack).
