It happened a few days later than last year, but G4AMT once again was
the first European to make it into the N6TR/7 log this "season".
He was followed quickly by GM0GAV. QSOs took place in the 0350z - 0400z
timeframe. I was hearing G4AMT a little around 0330z, but his signal
improved. W1YY/7 worked him just before I did - perhaps claiming the
first west coast USA to Europe QSO?
My 3 element parasitic vertical array is mostly working. It seems to
have a nice pattern to Europe - but no gain yet. It does seem to
have good gain towards VK however. Some wire tuning will hopefully
fix this.
I am using the K3 in diversity mode now - with the beverage in one
ear and the vertical array in the other. If you are interested in
what this sounds like, listen to the two following clips in stereo
with headphones:

http://www.kkn.net/~tree/160/GM0GAV-26-Aug-2008.wav
These are big files.
I continue to work VK3ZL most every morning I wake up early enough.
He monitors 1824.5 around 1200z. Also worked over the past week are
VK6ABL, VK3IO, FO/N6JA, JG7IJM, JH7PFD and UA0SC. I did work CX5BW
on 14 August, so I just need an African for WAC.
The band is alive!!!
