Yes, looking for resonances with a dipper or equivalent is certainly a good 
idea. And it's quite helpful to do your listening for noise with a portable 
radio that you can tune to a frequency where you're bothered by the noise. 

What else?  Look for any grounded conductors that approach a quarter wave at 
a frequency of a nearby antenna, or ungrounded conductors that approach a 
half wave at the operating frequency of the antenna, especially those that 
are nearly parallel to the antenna. These are most likely to act as 
parasitic elements for the antenna.
