Hi to all...This subject is right in my province.....I have been
operating for many years on 160 meters using a short L/C top loaded
vertical antenna with outstanding success....The overall height of this
antenna is 43 feet with a 12 foot diameter spoked top hat and a 70uh
loading coil....I would be happy to supply some detailed pictures of the
top loading structure to anybody interested...There is nothing
complicated or critical in the antenna...The bandwidth between the 2-1
swr points is under 20khz and this is no problem as being a CW person
only there is enough latitude to cover the CW portion of topband without
re tuning...I believe the secret to success is solid construction and a
field of 40 insulated 150 foot radials on the ground...

There is only one other major requirement for success on topband and
that is continuous devotion to the band...Part timers will only have
mixed success even with good antenna installations...You have to be
there all the time to enjoy and understand the band....

73.....Bob VK3ZL..
