I know I worked you in some of the next few contests. I don't have the logs
any more, so
I cant look up what really happened. I think I made something like 40
contacts. What I
clearly remember was being very pleased in the next couple of years when I made
just over
100 contacts... I'm afraid I don't recall too many calls other than the big
ones like
W1BB and W2EQS (it took me years to work them). Locally, Alex W6KIP, Niland
,W6EIG, Roy,
K6HXT, stick in my head - Alex had a nightly schedule with VK, I cant remember
who - and
he made the contact once or twice a year as I recall.
Remember, this was the Loran era, and most of the country was limited to 200
watts INPUT
at night, some much less, and it was not possible to work all states because
several
states had no operation allowed at all.
And I was also using my dads Viking Ranger & HQ140.... but I did have a
resonant
antenna - a big ( for then) hand wound coil in the middle of a cut section of
Tank whip
stuck out the top of some pieces of EMT propped up by the peak of the 2 story
roof. I
wore that roof and step ladder out fiddling with it
