Topband: Newbie

I have transformers being shipped from K1FZ to make a 2 wire beverage.. I think 
I have everything figured out for the installation except one thing.
I'm going to use #17 galvanized fence wire.
What is my best distance to use ?  I see some talk about 550 and others 600 
feet.. Is this distance critical. I will be also using this on 80 meters and 
perhaps 40
