Those are all very good prices from NA.
Here in the UK, the only source I found was Army Surplus, the best deal was
$85 for 2000ft spools + $15 shipping.
Anyone have any cheaper sources in the UK?

Anyone know of a good source for WD1A field phone wire these days?
Best I've found so far runs abut 60 bux shipped to WA for a 0.5 km spool.
Thanks,

Larry try eBay that is where I bought my last 2500 feet for 28 bucks but be
sure to not get it tangled as that is a mess or long runs.

Thanks Carl, even though it wasn't much help.
Need some new wire for some BOG experiments, mostly for 630 meters. Ran outa
cheap insulated wire. Considering cat5 because it's cheaper than any single
conductor wire you can buy. But WD1A ?is not as appetizing to the varmits
and in my old age, I really hate splicing wire in the snow.
Anybody even run bare wire on the ground? I tried that when I was in AZ and
it didn't work but the soil at that location was very very good. Maybe it
would work here over frozen sand and rock?

The last reel I bought was 2.5km for $40 plus about $20 shipping from Ohio
about 3-4 years ago on Fleabay. It was listed strangely but I forget how; I
believe I searched for "military wire" or something similar. I see some
speculators peddling it at .10/ft

LPL and LR both have excellent stacked 3 or 4 element 40m yagi's. But
note how as the fourth mode is engaged, both LR and LPL fall off
because they are not cleanly engaging the mode, most likely because
the increasing elevation angle is starting into a notch in the yagi
vertical pattern. Also note that NY4A carries the best signal for
most of the 24 hours. This is an evaluation of the NY4A 40 EU quad vs.
known excellent installations that is hard to argue with."
From the ARRL results database, sorted by maximum 40m QSOs (after
log-checking):
http://bit.ly/19YAF1f don't worry Frank...it's OK :-)
Rank Call 40m QSOs
1. K3LR 2000
2. W3LPL 1911
3. WE3C 1862
4. KM1W 1818
5. NY4A 1809
K3LR could be expected to have a higher total because of better prop
to JA but the other 4 should have had similar propagation to EU,
which would dominate their results. There's more to this story than
RBN spots from a single location shows.

My 26m Spiderbeam mast is made of a shiny black fiberglass material. Have
users of this or the shorter Spiderbeam masts had experience with how well
the masts hold up to UV radiation? My QTH is at 7000 ft elevation and the
sun shines 330 days/year, so UV degradation is a big problem. I've used
Krylon UV-resistant spray on my SteppIR yagi and it didn't seem to help at
all. I've heard that a water-based urethane paint works well, but don't know
if it would bond to the Spiderbeam mast. Also, the top of the mast is very
flexible and thin, so the weight of the paint might also be a problem. Any
suggestions?
