Not sure why there should be "varying confusion" on torque balancing. 
By doing so, you will maximize the stability of the antenna on the mast
in the presence of wind.  That will help your rotor turn the antenna in
the wind and minimize the "work" performed by the rotor and its brake
while not turning the antenna/mast.  (Although I don't use torque
balancing because I use Ring Rotors on my "big" tower, the next pair,
155CA and 105CA on my 'lil tower, without ring rotors, will be torque
balanced.)

It's all in W6QHS' book.

Frank, W3LPL, uses torque compensation to torque balance his antennas. 
Maybe he can add to this thread.  Frank??
