Guys, before I get blasted out of the cockpit ( and don't you wonder where that
term came from )
the correct word is "Variation" when describing the difference between true
North and Mag North.
Deviation is that correction which must be applied to the compass to correct
for it's mounting
error and surrounding objects.
If you've ever been on an airport and noticed a large compass painted
somewhere, that is the
position aircraft park to correct deviation, and it's called a compass rose.
