Joe Subich wrote about using a Brother label maker to make a strip . . .
affix it to the cable about 6 inches from the end . . . and protecting it
with a covering of clear shrink film.
Heckuva an idea!
That makes a LOT of sense when you're MAKING a new cable and can slip the
shrink film on before you add the connector. The vinyl film works well on the
pre-formed plugs of your equipment that goes into your 120/220V house
current.
Brother label machines cost anywhere from $50 to $200. The tape rolls are
about 8-10 cents per inch. Available at office supply stores.
By the way . . . another idea I use to TEMPORARILY ID wires is to use those
little plastic closures you find on bread bags. NOT the wire kind . . . the
little 1/2" x 1/2" plastic squares with a hole on one side. The hole fits
nicely over coax. You can remove any print with some lacquer thinner and add
your own ID with a Sharpie marker.
