I find 1 1/4 -1 1/2 steel angle iron works fine. I carry 6-8 of them in ny
truck. I use a 2' u-bolt and saddle, like those that come with KLM and FORCE
12 antennas. I welded the saddle on the outside of the angle, then drill the
holes foe the u-bolt. THat makes one less piece to drop while putting them
on. I also drill about a 3/4'" hole on the top in the center, so I can hang
the hook from the pully on the step. I't saves me from always haveing to
climb to the top of the mast to hook the pully if I'm only working near the
bottom of the mast.
