The antenna inside the typical AM transistor radio is fairly directional for
locating noisy power poles, bad switches, etc., but of course it has two lobes
180 degrees from each other.  I find it most useful to DF with the nulls rather
than the gain lobes.

One other hint (which is probably obvious), be sure you first eliminate your
own QTH as a possible source.  Shut your power down at the service entrance
while you are listening to the noise on a battery powered rig.
