Henry: This unusual but not unheard of problem is caused by a condition known
as "nuisance reactance". There is no known prevention but because of its
unusual nature, each and every case must be carefully studied, analyzed and
documented to further the understanding of these rare occurences. I
personally have been persuing the ultimate solution to this perplexing
phenomenon for more than 40 years with very little progress toward a final
solution.

If you will carefully draw curves of the vswr characteristics of each antenna
on the wall right behind your operating position you will have a permanent
and ready reference to detect this condition the next time it appears.

Happy hunting! de Gerald, K5GW
