So, I take it you cannot work anyone? You can't work DX with it? Nick, the
TA-33 was never meant to be a killer antenna, but it is a good antenna. For
the dollars, it is a good investment. They are tough, rugged and simple.
Granted they are no TH6 or TH7 or KT34XA...but they do serve a purpose.
Even Mosley understands that when they went design happy several years ago
and produced their current line.
But, the TA-33 should not be ignored as a general all around beam. They are
light, easy to put up, does not take a hugh rotor to turn them, can be put
on very light towers and poles, and they are easy to repair.
I will be replacing my TA-33 with a used TH6 this summer, but the TA-33 will
be mounted at 30 feet pointed west...and it will be taken to FD. Why am I
replacing it? Obviously, the TH6 will perform better than the TA-33, but I
don't know if by much. Only in tight situations that might be true. But,
there are other reasons as well: 1. Something to do that is different. 2.
Getting ready for the increased sunspot activity. 3. I need a good FD beam.
You might not get the DX station on the first call, but you will get them.
It is far from a dummy load. IMHO.
