Hi Bob,

I confess to knowing nothing about bass fisherman but I like the
challenge of trying to answer your question.

Turning the brim of the hat "downwind" (towards one's back) probably
serves two purposes. The first is that the wind tends to get under the
brim when it shades your forehead and then lifts the hat off the
head... not a good thing. Secondly, if there's a lot of water raining
down on you ... the backward facing brim would tend to keep the water
from running down the back of your neck which is probably even more
uncomfortable than water in the face... which can't be avoided.

True, the brim won't then provide shade for the eyes... but considering
the above reasoning... it's a good trade-off.

Any bass fisherman out there who can corroborate my thinking... or am I
all wet once again? And of course this is again the wrong forum for
this Q & A. Probably http:Bass/hats/downwind.blow would be better...
if there is such a place.

I'd rather be flying than sailing!
