The stock ring gear in the HAM-M/HAM-IV line is a cheap pot metal cast.
Hy-Gain has replacements in the standard or for a couple of bucks more,
they
have a steel version that is "hell-for-stout".
I think I paid $12.00 for the last steel one I bought. They've no doubt
gone
up some. It's certainly worth the cost. You are not likely to crack or
de-tooth
the good ones.
