Just a reminder that PVC usually is a poor rf insulator.
To be sure of the quality of any plastic, cut a small
piece off and put in a microwave for 3 minutes. If
it is hot when removed, then it is no good for an
insulator at rf frequencies.

I used  pvc solid rod and had it milled down on a lathe.  I bought it locally
at a plastics shop.  Its tough stuff and wont swell when wet.  
  The was used at the point of compression at the boom to mast plate on 
the 402cd.
