Thanks to all for the strength info on square vs round tubing.
I'm going to use 10' by 3" square steel tubing sections buried 3' in 1/4
yard of concrete for the elevated anchors on my two 61 ft Rohn H70 masts.
I'm also going to use the Kevlar+Dacron stuff from Radio Works as guys.
There will be a wire antenna strung between the masts and the tension will
be maintained by pulleys with a counterweight at the bottom of one mast.
There are seven levels of guys, and I'm trying to figure out how to
terminate seven turnbuckles at the top of the guy posts without them
interfering with one another. I also want the post side of the turnbuckles
to be stationary so that I can adjust them easily (so I only have to hold
one rather than both turnbuckle screws while turning the center of the
turnbuckle).
The only idea I've been able to come up with is to attach a screw eye bolt
through the post and make a loop of strong, stiff cable about a foot or so
in diameter. I would 'string' the turnbuckles on the loop with a one or two
inch bushing between each one to provide some fixed spacing.
Have others made this sort of thing without cutting and welding? I don't
want to pay for 6 of the Rohn 'tension equalizers' unless they perform some
function I can't get from a less rigid rig.
