Hi Matt,
My name's not Steve, but I have an opinion anyway. The problem with an
extra shelf in 25G is that a regluar Rohn AS25G shelf won't fit any where
there is diagonal braces on the tower. This is not true of an AS455G used
on 45G tower.
You COULD modify the AS25G, I suppose, by making some notches in it for the
diagonals.
My solution was to use a long mast and install the rotator at the bottom of
the top section. In one case, I used a flat top with a thrust bearing on it
and a wood block on an AS25G where the rotator normally goes. In another
case, I used a pipe top with a thrust bearing mounted on an AS25G where the
rotator normally goes. Both installations seem to work well and have been
in use since 1972.
I had to cut out one horizontal brace at the bottom of the top section in
both cases to get the rotator inside the tower.
