Here's more info from Roger Cox, WB0DGF, regarding the Hy-Tower. Good
info and more excellent customer service from Hy-Gain.

Cheers, Steve K7LXC

Steve,

Linda assures me that we will still keep parts on hand for the 18HT
antennas, just not the Rohn BX-24 towers. For those who can obtain a BX-24
tower somewhere else, here are the mod's to make it into an 18HT tower:

1. Remove the 6 rivets holding the rotor and top plates to the tower.

2. Have a machine shop enlarge the 2 1/16" diameter holes in these 2
plates to 3" on the same center. Do not try to do this yourself unless you
have the proper equipment and training!

3. Reassemble the 2 plates to the tower using 5/16" dia 3/4 brazier hd
rivets (6 total).

4. The lower legs of the bottom section (#3) have 2 holes 9/16" dia
separated by 1 1/2". The bottom hole is 1" from the bottom edge. Drill 2
new holes, 25/64" dia, at 5/8" and 5 1/4" from the bottom edge of each leg.
The lower hole will overlap the existing hole. Paint or use cold
galvanizing to protect the drilled holes from rust.

As you can see, some specialized equipment and training would be necessary
to make the mods. I would highly recommend that a machine shop perform all
the work. This would be much safer and less frustrating for the
inexperienced.
