Greetings to all,
Well, I knew what I was in for when I added the comment on my partially
completed 402 CD. YO didn't really do much for it at low heights if one
is looking for low angle operation.(I am). I did model a regular 2el 40m
beam at 60' with EZNEC 2.0 this afternoon, and I was impressed. 31
degree takeoff and acceptable gain. A friend, WO0Y, Ron, ran many tests
with his 402-cd at 65' and his 40m delta loop beat it in nearly every
case. He took it down and it may now be for sale. In April I got my X9.
Ron and I assembled it and took down my M2 20M4 monobander, and put the
X9 up. No tweaking required at all. My band edges are 2:1 or less on
20-15-10m and checking with a strong VK, it appears to actually have
around 30 db of front-to-back on those bands. I was amazed to find that
the antenna has a reasonable SWR on 17 and 12 meters, around 4-5 to 1.
Just a tiny touch of my MB VA tuner and they pulled right in. And yes,
these bands definitely have fwd gain, front-to-back and good
directionality. My log shows that I was able to work all the DXpeditions
going on this spring on all the bands, including WARC. I use a
TS-950sdx and an Alpha 89, (when I need it ).
I'm using 9913 flex through underground PVC.(no water yet!) I also use
the Ameritron remote antenna switch and a polyphaser dc-blocked
"lightning Arrestor".
I havnt modeled the X9 yet, but may attempt it in the near future
Best Regards,
Tom, W0HH
