Yeah, those guns can be very frustrating. Usually retightening fixes things,
but perhaps it has another problem. Have you tried just replacing the tip?
I gave up on guns several years ago and now use a good sized butane soldering
iron for all my larger work. It gets at least as hot as a decent gun and does
it much faster and more reliable....and you dont have to run the
extension cord up the tower! (Too dangerous anyway...) Master Appliance
makes 3 different sizes and I recommend either of the larger two... but stay
away from "toys" like Portasol, Radio Shack, etc.
