Hi Brian,
Remember to scuff each surface (ID & OD) in the connections to obtain 
un-oxidized
bare surfaces, before applying the Penetrox. Use only Penetrox A or A-13.
Several manufacturers recommend scuffing or sanding the compound into the metal
surface before assembly. I like it, because it assures full wetting of all 
mating
surfaces before assembly. If the compound, separates on the surface, it means 
that
the oxide has not been removed. Scuff it until the compound remains in a full
wetted form.

I prefer the toroid bead baluns for antennas that match the coax. They are small
and have essentially nothing to fail in them, other than a bad connector
connection.
