I like Tom answers about the names for connectors better than mine.
BNC Bayonet Neill Concelman, Paul Neill and Carl Concelman were
Engineers for Bell Laboratories. And were the designors
TNC Threaded Neill Concelman, T for Threaded because it is Threaded and
designed by the same Engineers.
N Connector was designed by Paul Neill.
HN connector which is a little known connector designed for HIGH VOLTAGE
by Paul Neill.
C connector was designed and perfected by Carl Concelman.
SM series (sub-miniature) with designation of A,B & C
PL-259 is a (Military designation).
