Hi Chuck,

You can calibrate it yourself pretty easily.  Just take about 10 feet of
extra 3/16 EHS and hang it vertically from something like a tree limb or
a garage ceiling joist.  Then suspend known weights from it until you
know it is supporting 400 lb.  Check  the tension with the Loos gauge and
note the reading.

You can use cement blocks, bricks, railroad iron, or anything else for
weights that you can weigh one at a time on your bathroom scale.  You can
tie a five gallon bucket on the 3/16 EHS to hold the smaller weights that
are not so easy to attach to the 3/16 EHS.  Include the weight of the
bucket, too.
