PVC pipe won't stop radiation. My experiences
with ladder line lead me to prefer coax. I would
suggest 9913 (which is a bear to work with) or
better still Times Microwave LMR cable which is
less expensive than Andrews Heliax(TM) and
has lower attenuation than RG8. DavisRF has
good low-loss coax alternatives. If you can afford
the connectors, go with the larger sized LMR or
Heliax(TM); say 7/8" or larger.
Maybe you can locate the amp by the tower and
remotely tune it!

Subject: [TowerTalk] Cable loss
Will shortly be running an underground feedline about 150' to my 17M
antenna. I've got a nice roll of RG-8 that I'd like to use, but the 1.95 dB
loss means that 36% of my power will be wasted in heating the coax. (And
that's only if SWR=1:1). Am instead thinking about running 450 ohm ladder
line with 9:1 transformers each end. Anybody got any better ideas??
