Perhaps you are thinking of a thread (no pun intended) that I
started regarding the screws which hold the two
halves of the HAM-M thru HAM-IV series rotors together. These
are NOT the screws that secure the rotor to the mounting plate,
but rather the self-tapping screws that hold the two gray aluminum
castings together.
I asked whether Loctite Blue would prevent the screws from
backing out. Quite a few people said it would work. One chap
from the U.K. said it wouldn't hold, and he was correct.
A tech at Hy-Gain told me that each time the screws are
removed, they take out a little bit of aluminum in the
threads. After the rotor has been serviced a few times, the
screws no longer hold, and one has to replace the upper
casting.
The Tailtwister uses a much better design, with real nuts and
bolts, nothing self-tapping into aluminum. The t2x also
uses stronger u-bolts, another weak link in the HAM series.
Those are two good reasons to choose the t2x over the HAM series,
especially considering the small price difference, both new and
from Norm's and RotorDoc.
Well, I've gone pretty far astray from the original subject,
but maybe it's of some general interest.
