My friend NN4T (ex WA4CTA) built a top loaded 80M 4 sqr
using tapered aluminum tubing and had problems keeping
it up. I suggested he use 2 inch tubing for the entire length
of 42 ft composed of 7 (UPS shipable) sections 6 ft long
coupled with 1 ft long splices of 1-7/8 inch tubing. He found
these elements to be stiffer yet light enough for him to
install by himself. They also seem to hold up better in the wind.
