g'day brian

thanks for the advice
the fibreglass tube filled with epoxy resin could be the way to go
although i am not really worried about compressive strength
with a self-supporting tower i am more worried about the bending
giving rise to large tensile stresses especially at the base
total weight of the telescopic mast is less than 20 pounds
i recall that porcelain has massive compressive strength
but is quite brittle under tension
any other ideas for maximum tensile strength?
