Personally, I would avoid using aluminum in a
situation like a mast that sticks out far above a
tower. The aluminum "work hardens" (I'm sure there's
a scientific term for this) with time as it bends back
and forth. It then becomes brittle and breaks easily -
just like what happens a lot to aluminum antenna
elements. Steel does not have this characteristic.
