ANY antenna is better than NO antenna.
(Yep, N0AH here responding in (........) this point is true-except in the
case of using certain products I promised myself I would not say anything
about- )
A GOOD antenna is better than a POOR antenna.
(Yep.............soooooooooo, whats your point? )
TOP loading is better than BASE loading.
( Really?? I bet a HF2V will beat a 3 foot vertical top loaded any day of
the week- )
An MFJ 1792 is better than an HF2V.
(when did you test them side by side and what were the results?...)
An HF2V *with* TOP Loading wires is better
than an HF2V *without* top loading wires.
(Thats what the manual say's too)
(Better means LOUDER)..........(N4KG said that, not me!.....humm....)
When KZ4V was using her HF2V with 120 radials
(and no toploading) she had to wait to get through
the pileups on 80M. With the vertically polarized
Delta Loop or high dipole, she dominated many
pileups. She now has around 250 countries
worked on 80M with no special RX antennas.
(OK, so she had a better way to work 80 meters with a 90 foot tower.......why
does that all of a sudden make a HF2V evil for hams who can't enhance their
life with a 90 foot tower??????)
I have documented 225 countries using my
Top Loaded 80M Elevated GP (many / most
Africans were previously worked on dipoles
and not reworked).
(Over time, anything is possible...so what does this have to do with the
HF2V?)
By comparison, the HF2V users you cited
are lagging behind.
(Lagging??? Huh? Their efforts got published by the world's leading
authority on the low bands- - Are you saying that hams trying to make the
best with less then ideal circumstances are lagging behind those with some
acerage? I'm lost.........I take it you just don't think much of the HF2V??)
FH / G3SXW was 339 on my 500 ft Beverage
aimed at Africa using his HF2V. I wonder
how much better copy he would have been
with a top loaded 80M vertical.
(well, like you said, you're in the log, sounds like a fb antenna he was
using to me!)
I suspect the MFJ 1792 would come in closer
to the Delta Loop performance than the HF2V
performance and requires no more space than
the HF2V. I'm grateful for all the 80M DX I have
worked where HF2V's were deployed.
(But you think the HF2V is a tuned dummy load, unworthy of any kind of
praise...........so what's up here? Have you tested the antenna's side by
side? Can you provide us any data? Maybe I should just buy that MFJ 1026
advertised as being better then an array- After all, it WIPES out static
crashes)
I have no affiliation with MFJ. I just think
they make a BETTER 80 / 40 vertical.
(Ask 100 hams who have been on DXpeditions as to which antenna they would
bring if they had to choose between the amazing MFJ 40/80 vertical or the
HF2V.........)
I hope more DXpeditions discover this
great low band antenna.
(I've never seen a DXpedition with a MFJ antenna banner......but maybe you
can be the first and take one with you on a $5,000 trip and give us all a new
one.....I'm not trying to start something here, but over the years, I don't
see MFJ being a leader in consumer satisfaction or setting records on
DXpeditions)
Tom N4KG (80M DXCC 322 and 80M WAZ with dipoles,
GP, 7 Beverages and 1200W Output)
(I repeat, .....it's all perspective. If you have room for a 90 foot
tower, your friend's Inv V is a good choice, if you have room for
beverages, fb, but we are talking about small lot's..............I can fit a
HF2V in a 10x10 sand box...no, it won't get me DXCC in a weekend, but it is
better then no antenna, a lot better- )
